Ocean's Ghost, otherwise known as blocks 14 and 15 on the Babcock Estate, with the Santa Rita Hills in the background. Thousands of years ago, this was the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
Pinot Noir, Déjà vu
Rabbit Ridge Vineyard , Paso Robles (Yes, Paso Robles!)
2005 Pinot Noir Déjà vu is SOLD OUT.
2006 Pinot Noir Déjà vu is SOLD OUT.
2007 Pinot Noir Déjà vu will be released to Terroir Exclusives and Terroir Exclusives PLUS wine club members in Spring of 2009.
The West side of Paso Robles is layered with limestone. This feature is what attracted Bryan Babcock to the terroir at Rabbit Ridge Vineyards.
Chardonnay, Top Cream
Babcock Estate Grown, Santa Rita Hills
2004 TOP CREAM Chardonnay is SOLD OUT.
2005 TOP CREAM Chardonnay is SOLD OUT.
2006 TOP CREAM Chardonnay is SOLD OUT.
2007 TOP CREAM Chardonnay will be released to Terroir Exclusives and Terroir Exclusives PLUS wine club members in October 2008.
The top soil on the "bench" at the Babcock Estate block 7 is a 2 to 3 foot deep, grayish brown, gravelly loam that offers life to its vines on top of an ominously impervious layer of sandstone. It is this upper layer of soil that Bryan refers to as this vineyard’s "Top Cream".
Chardonnay, Oasis
Loma Verde Vineyard, Santa Barbara County, Los Alamos
2005 OASIS Chardonnay is SOLD OUT.
2006 OASIS Chardonnay is now available.
2007 OASIS Chardonnay will be released to Terroir Exclusives and Terroir Exclusives PLUS wine club members in October 2008.
Once again, limestone soil is what caught Bryan Babcock's eye when he first was offered grapes from this section of Loma Verde Vineyard.
Syrah, Nook & Cranny
Babcock Estate Grown, Santa Rita Hills
2003 Nook & Cranny Syrah is SOLD OUT.
2004 Nook & Cranny Syrah is SOLD OUT.
2005 Nook & Cranny Syrah is SOLD OUT.
2006 Nook & Cranny Syrah will be released to Terroir Exclusives and Terroir Exclusives PLUS wine club members in October 2008.
The soils of Nook & Cranny are a matrix of gravelly loam and shattered sandstone, the kind of stuff that intimately governs the vigorous nature of Syrah, while still allowing it to ripen. To keep it out of the wind, it's planted (unconventionally) on two small adjacent east facing hillsides.
Cabernet Sauvignon, The Loin
Estelle Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley
2003 "THE LOIN " Cabernet Sauvignon is SOLD OUT.
2004 "THE LOIN" Cabernet Sauvignon is SOLD OUT.
2005 "THE LOIN" Cabernet Sauvignon is nearly sold out. Order yours soon!
The soil at Estelle Vineyard is a fairly rich looking loam full of cobble stones of all sizes and colors. Most interesting is the way some of the more bluish rocks almost have a waxy luster, like the phenomena that is associated with a quartz material known as chalcedony. All of the Estelle Vineyard is tantalizing, but this is the fillet minion. From the standpoint of terroir, this is THE LOIN.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Nucleus
Estelle Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley
2004 "NUCLEUS" Cabernet Sauvignon is SOLD OUT.
2005 "NUCLEUS" Cabernet Sauvignon is now available.
Whereas The Loin is the filet mignon being 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from an idyllic little rock covered hillside, Nucleus is a little bigger and represents more of the middle ranch.
